Despite Hurricane Sandy, which disrupted the travel of a number of the attendees and presenters, Ecomusicologies 2012 took place at Tulane University in New Orleans. The events fostered the personal and intellectual connections amongst the nascent ecomusicological community. On this page you will find selected audio recordings and photographs from the events, both the formal presentations of the pre-conference and the informal outings and adventures that were open to others also attending the AMS/SEM/SMT events throughout the week. Do feel free to post your own reflections below, and please identify yourself as a presenter or attendee (or as a visitor to this page!).
Audio (mp3) of selected sessions (cf the program):
- Beyond Metaphor (without Kevin Dawe’s and Jeff Todd Titon’s talks due to an unfortuante technical error)
- 20th- and 21st-century Composers
- Contemporary Issues
- Ethnographic Approaches
- Canadian Perspectives
- “Birding” (concert by ~spin~) and closing remarks
And here are the “Elluminate” recordings of the on-line sessions, which captured online involvement, audio, and video (but, be forewarned, with numerous service interruptions and regular lack of audio and video clarity):
* You’ll need updated Java, and you should log in as a guest with whatever email and name you prefer.
Photographs of the “Birding” concert:
Photographs of the Cancer Alley / River Road Reality Tour (Darryl Malek-Wiley, tour guide; we are at the Bonnet Carré Spillway):
Photographs of the Swamp Tour, and audio of a red-bellied woodpecker we heard during the only moment of human silence we enjoyed on the entire outing (recorded by Jeff Todd Titon).
Photographs of the Barataria Hike.
